David Bowie – The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars Album Review

How’s this for a period of musical productivity?

David Bowie releases Hunky Dory in 1971. That album features “Changes,” “Life on Mars?” and “Queen Bitch,” three of his best selling singles.

In 1972, Bowie releases today’s album, a concept record: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. It features the singles “Starman,” “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide,” and “Suffragette City” – not to mention “Moonage Daydream” and the title track “Ziggy Stardust.”

Then, in 1973, Bowie releases his most memorable character via Aladdin Sane, which featured lead single “The Jean Genie.”

Hard to believe that David Bowie gave us the hits “Let’s Dance,” “China Girl” and “Modern Life” – all on one album.

Look, I try not to idolize musicians because I know that they’re just human beings like other people. Except for the fact that when they wake up in the morning or afternoon or night or whenever these alien beings sleep, they create the sounds that fill our ears and minds for our entire existence.

No real difference, I guess.
