If you know… literally anything about me, it’s probably how white I am. The second thing you should know about me is that I love the Wu-Tang Clan.
In no uncertain terms and without becoming hyperbolic, here’s a couple of absolutes: the Wu is, for me, the best supergroup of any genre; today’s album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is the best hip hop album to come out of the 90’s and possibly the best hip hop album of all time.
Nothing else needs to be said. I don’t know what I really could say about them, because the Wu is universal, and forever.
If you want to know more about them, read the Manual as written by the RZA. Almost 250 pages of philosophy, lyric explanation and group history. The fact that a group like this even has a book is a testament to their legacy. The Wu changed everything.
One of my favorite albums ever. Part of the Desert Island 10 – maybe even 5 – for sure.
Now, Chess Box –
Standout tracks: “C.R.E.A.M.” and “Protect Ya Neck” – but the album on the whole is a timeless classic.
Weakest track: Nope. This is the mecca of hip-hop.
RIYL: Rap, hip hop.
